Convention on the Protection of World Heritage, Cultural and Natural Heritage was adopted at the seventeenth session of the General Conference of United Nations Educational, Science and Culture, meeting in Paris in November 1972.
Birth purpose of this convention was to “establish an effective system of collective protection of the cultural and natural heritage of outstanding universal value, organized in a permanent form by modern scientific methods”.
Ratifications States Parties, in the 40 years of, made the, now, 189 countries to join the World Heritage 936 sites from which: 725 cultural, 183 natural and 28 mixed.
Romania acceded to the Convention by Presidential Decree No.187 March CPUN 1990. After 22 years, Romania appears on the list of world heritage with a number of 6 objectives (Churches in Moldova – Join year 1993; Monastery Hurezi – Join year 1993; Villages with Fortified Churches in Transylvania – Join year 1993, 1999; Dacian fortresses Orăştiei – Join year 1999; Historic Centre of Sighisoara – Join year 1999; Wooden Churches of Maramures – Join year 1999) recognized as a World Heritage cultural and
1 objective (Delta – Join year 1991) World Natural Heritage.
At this meeting were invited to participate, besides Romanian specialists, three specialists, in this area, Japan: prof. Takashi Hara, prof. Kenichiro Hidaka the prof. Masahito Yoshida.
