"FUTURE FOLK" - between tradition and avant-garde in Ploiesti
The journey through time and space of the project Future Folk is coming to an end - the last event of this initiative took place in Ploiesti on 19 September. c., at the Philharmonic Paul Constantinescu. Unusually for a concert hall, the main actors of the project appeared on stage Future Folk and a unique exhibition, bearing the same name, made up of 25 avant-garde and militant clothing creations, which is not inspired, but reinvents lines and motifs of traditional costumes from Romania. Romanian costumes, but also costumes specific to national minorities – a rich cultural heritage, valuable, marked by diversity and sustainability. Everything gives life to the slogan Our heritage: Where the past meets the future, SLOGAN European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, enrolling in this international campaign.
It should be noted that Future Folk is an initiative of the UNESCO Alumnus Club Association from Bucharest, co-financed by the National Cultural Fund Administration, The City Hall of the Capital through the Youth Center of the Municipality of Bucharest and the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO. This time, the project enjoyed the special support of the Ploiesti Philharmonic, of the Hellenic Union from Romania and the Hellenic Community from Prahova county.
How can today's young people accept the values of our traditional heritage, maybe out of everyday life but defining for all of us? How can we preserve this heritage for future generations? How will our traditions be perceived in a few decades? These are questions that the artist and the organizers involved in the cultural project are trying to answer Future Folk.
Carmen Emanuela Popa, PhD in design at the University of Arts in Bucharest, is the creator of the original cultural product proposed by Future Folk – an avant-garde clothing design collection that reinvents traditional costumes from various areas of the country, traveling exhibition now in Ploiesti. Attentive to the symbolism and philosophy behind each object, the artist wants to launch an invitation to communication through her creations on this occasion, dialogue and understanding between people. It is actually the message of the whole project.
Open again this time to innovative cultural experiments, less conventional, The Philharmonic is currently the host of the exhibition Future Folk, presented in Ploiesti on the day of 19 September. The inauguration was all the more successful and emotional as the hosts completed the event with a poetic moment Nichita Stănescu, supported by Mihaela Rus, general director of the Theatre Thomas Caragiu, then with a concert of the quartet Chronos and a moment of Greek dance, presented by the Ensemble Kymata of the Hellenic Community Prahova.
Exhibition Future Folk, itself the result of an intercultural exercise, we want to be a living proof of the fact that diversity is an inexhaustible resource of innovation and creativity in a society where there is understanding and respect between people, between communities. The event is dedicated to the Centenary of the Union and at the same time European days of heritage, which takes place in September throughout the continent, inviting mutual knowledge, respect for values, dialogue through culture.
