Presented at the XVth edition, "Youth and Museums" Project, project organized year by year by the Alumnus Club for UNESCO under the patronage of the European and Romanian Federations of Associations and Clubs for UNESCO, aimed at supporting refugee children from Ukraine by organizing during the period 18 July 2023 – 22 July 2023 in Cisnădioara, Sibiu, of art workshops for children and conversation workshops in Romanian for their mothers. The theme of this year's project was: "Believe in Hope".

Under the guidance of folk artisans, within the Astra National Museum in Sibiu, the children participated in traditional wood painting and pottery workshops.

The origami technique was also practiced, children learning in this workshop to make paper, butterflies and doves.

The last workshop was dedicated to the art of collage, artistic process that consists in composing a painting by gluing together heterogeneous elements. Thus children cut small pieces of colored paper and with their help created a large poster with messages of thanks for the organizers.

The biggest challenge in the integration of the Ukrainians who remained in Romania was, is and will be the language barrier. For this reason, while the children participated in the art workshops, daily for moms, conversation workshops were organized in Romanian in which topics of primary interest were addressed: the human body, the doctor, shopping, the restaurant, food, animated, greetings or common questions and answers etc.

The children, together with their parents, also took part in the Classics for Fun concert, organized by Elite Art Club within the 13th edition of the Classics for Pleasure festival. On this occasion they were able to discover in a unique way, novel, in a dynamic and interactive show, the life and work of Mozart.

In those 5 days the children visited

  • The city of Sibiu – European Capital of Culture in the year 2007.

  • Astra National Museum the most important ethno-museum institution in Romania, the largest open-air ethno museum in Europe.
  • Cisnădioara Fortress – a medieval fortress perched on top of a hill that houses a beautiful church representative of Transylvanian Romanesque
  • Cozia Monastery – an emblematic monastery of Romania

The National Federation of UNESCO Associations from Japan was with us as a partner.
