"Aurel Vlaicu" University of Arad together with the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO organized on 6 March 2020 a national conference with international participation, on gender equality, dedicated to International Women's Day.
The conference was opened by reading the message of Mrs. Daniela Zaharia – Secretary General of the National Commission of Romania for UNESCO.
The event held in the festive hall of the National Bank Palace was attended by dr. Daniela Popescu, expert – National Commission of Romania for UNESCO and president of the Alumnus Club for UNESCO that presented UNESCO Programs dedicated to gender equality.
The colloquium enjoyed international participation, professors from prestigious universities presenting papers during the event, from which we can mention conf.dr. Mihaela Tudor from the Paul Valéry University in Montpellier, prof.dr. Philippe Viallon of the University of Strasbourg, dr. Jelena Prtljaga from the "Mihailo Palov" Specialized Higher Studies School for Educators from Vârset, Serbia who brought their epistemological contribution, together with the participants from the country, at the colloquium proceedings, as well as the president of the Hungarian Self-Government in the Land of Romanians (ARU), dl. Gheorghe Cozma, with the executive director of Redaccia Cronica, dna Delia Kovacs, pr. Florin Ilie Olteanu, deputy director of the AțRU Information Center, as well as representatives of local authorities.
"Gender equality is one of the objectives formulated by UNESCO, objective that our university has assumed as a priority. It is also a fundamental principle of the European Union since its foundation that stipulates the principle of equal pay for equal work, principle that became part of the Treaty of Rome. I hope this colloquium, through the debates that have been launched, to determine a change of mentality that allows a greater involvement of women in the life of society, an increase in the role of women in decision-making at the institutional level, at the level of private management and maybe, what is more important, increasing confidence in one's own forces" pointed out the rector of UAV, prof.univ.dr. Ramona Lile.
